The Best works page is a sampling of standout assignments from this past Global semester that displays the talents, hard work and determination of the students.
Politics of Self Paper
The politics of self paper was the first of many essays we wrote during the semester. In this paper we explored and explained our own values, identifying integral parts of ourselves. This form of introspection guided us in the creation of the out of the box presentation. The presentation required that each of us represent our values with physical objects in a conceptual way and present them to our classmates and all four teachers. This first presentation allowed each of us the perfect opportunity to introduce ourselves to fellow students and gave us a taste of what Global Perspectives entails. |
English Essay
In Mr. Toole’s class we learned of darker subjects such as colonialism and greed in various pieces of literature, which we then analyzed to produce coherent works of our own . In this essay, titled Colonialism in Africa, the Global student explored and proved the oppressive influence of colonialism while using examples from "The Sacrificial Egg". |
World Poetry Assignment
It is with poetry that we explore various themes, both conceptual and literal, in our Global English program. With the help of Mr.Toole, students finessed their production of quality poetry, while learning how to present them in an enticing manner. They learnt of many styles from various countries around the world. From American free verse, to Polynesian poetry, to Insult poetry, students experienced a more culturally varied poetic range than ever before. In one class assignment, students were split up into seven groups and assigned with a type of poetry from around the world. Each group had to study and present the history, the culture and the importance of each type of poetry, while also putting a poetry portfolio of their own together. The poetry portfolio consisted of two poems from each group member: one pertaining to their ISU topic, and the other about themselves (with their respective poetry style). Each group chose two of their best poems from their portfolio to present to the class. |

Mannequin Challenge
On the first day of Global Perspectives, the students were tasked with the challenge of recreating the mannequin challenge to the theme of a given world event. The Mannequin Challenge is a viral Internet video trend where people remain frozen in action like mannequins while a moving camera films them, usually with the song "Black Beatles" by Rae Sremmurd playing in the background.Although these videos were based off of a viral video trend, what the students created made it much more. The students were given a time limit of three hours in one of the first group projects to demonstrate how the students could work amongst themselves. As the students went through the process of brainstorming one of these topics: Dakota Access pipeline, the reactions to Fidel Castro's death, etc, allowing them to gain more insight into each situation as well as how they worked with the people they would be learning and travelling with for the rest of the semester.
